Community Led Local Development Programme (CLLD)
Join us for an introduction to working with the public.
Do you want to:
- enhance your digital skills
- learn how to interview clients
- improve your confidence
- and enhance your CV
The project is run by CAL in partnership with Luton Borough Council and is funded by the European Social Fund. The training will take place in our central Luton office. Luton is an area with high levels of unemployment, economic inactivity and low skills. The aim of the project is to remove barriers to employment for particular sections of the community. We will primarily target three specific groups of local residents:
- unemployed adults aged 50+;
- unemployed (& Economically Inactive) women, from under represented groups;
- People with mental or physical health conditions
You must also live in one of the 11 eligible wards: Biscot, Dallow, South, High Town, Farley, Northwell, Leagrave, Lewsey, Round Green, Crawley, or Sundon Park.
The project provides a tailored programme of learning, focusing on customer service skills and office procedures.
Participants will learn office protocols, logging onto a system, accessing and replying to emails, completing GDPR training, understanding confidentiality, working collaboratively with other staff, completing a digital module on the role of Citizens Advice.
Participants will move on to learn skills for helping clients, how to talk to the public, using open and closed questions, looking at their own attitudes and prejudices, and understanding the public’s viewpoint, how to deal with difficult situations and diffuse awkward situations. There will be the opportunity to put their learning into practice by observing and helping on a busy reception desk. Participants will engage with the public, assist them to complete documentation and learn how to input data onto a case management system, while managing a waiting room and keeping the public informed of wait times.
Participants will complete the training within 42 hours (over 6 weeks) and there will be the opportunity to extend their learning within this time frame if they complete the learning and wish to progress further.
